TWO NOTEWORTHY ROTARY EVENTS COINCIDE IN COLUMBIA ON SATURDAY, JUNE 27. 2015
Rotary Day at the Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri to help combat hunger in Central Missouri.
Missouri ranks 2nd in the nation for Low Food Security, which means this issue impacts some of our neighbors today.
The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri does a terrific job but always needs volunteer support to pack food for hungry Missourians.
Lunch and installation of Club Officers and District Governor for the 2015-16 year.
Installation at noon by PDG Duane Sterling of Warrensburg.
Columbia Rotary Clubs and other clubs interested are invited to install their 2015-16 officers at this important Rotary event.
Local media will be advised and invited to provide coverage of the Work Day and Installation, giving Rotary the opportunity to showcase our Service Above Self motto.
This is an ambitious initiative and strong participation by all clubs is needed to provide maximum benefit for the Food Bank and to showcase Rotary.
This will be a competitive event which will match the north against the south regions of Rotary District 6080. The contest is called “THE ROTARY DISTRICT 6080 NORTH-SOUTH FOOD FIGHT” and the goal is for each region to accumulate as many points as possible by doing volunteer work or donating money to food banks, pantries or other charitable organizations. The Competition will run from June 27 through July 31. The points are achieved by volunteer hours (100 points for each hour), cash donations (100 points for every $50 donated) and food donations (100 points for every 100 pounds of food donated). The fabulous, incomparable, traveling trophy and other awards will be presented at the District Conference on October 24th at the Lake of the Ozarks.
I am challenging each member of the Fulton Rotary Club to bring non-perishable food items (especially peanut butter) to our July meetings. Collected food items will be donated to SERVE for distribution through their pantry. If your business wants to partner with the Fulton Rotary Club to do a food drive in conjunction with the District Food Fight, we can all win. If you collect food through your business, just bring it with you to the last Rotary meeting in July.
